Comment: Zidovudine (AZT) is a nucleoside analogue reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) class antiretroviral drug. It was the first antiretroviral for HIV to be approved by the US FDA, and it is now listed in the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.
